The department traces its history to 1903, when KPI’s Mechanical Division established a department of steam boilers. Its work now connects nuclear power engineering, energy equipment and the reliability and safety of power facilities.

Education and professional fields
Bachelor’s, master’s and PhD training combines mathematics and physics, computing and engineering. It covers the operation of nuclear power facilities, neutron physics, thermal hydraulics, reliability and safety. The department’s educational and research connections include Energoatom, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate, the State Scientific and Technical Centre for Nuclear and Radiation Safety, Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy, institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the US Department of Energy and Argonne National Laboratory.
