Research schools

IATE’s research schools connect fundamental research with engineering solutions for energy, industry and digital systems.

Heat transfer, hydrodynamics and reliability of power equipment

Ye. M. Pysmennyi · Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor

Heat and mass transfer and hydrodynamic processes in power equipment, and their effect on operational reliability. Research includes enhanced heat-transfer surfaces and thermal and hydraulic design methods; cooling and thermal stabilisation of electronic equipment; energy-saving systems and nanosatellite technologies.

The department’s history names V. I. Tolubinsky and A. P. Ornatsky as the school’s founders and Y. M. Pysmennyi as a successor. School history and research areas (Ukrainian) →

Combustion efficiency and service life of thermal and alternative energy equipment

O. Yu. Chernousenko · Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor

Flame stabilisation, flame and combustion-product temperatures, and nitrogen oxide formation as combustion arrangements and burner designs change. Assessment and management of power equipment service life, including operating hours, start-up counts and the optimisation of starts from different thermal conditions.

TAE’s school record traces this research lineage to Academician I. T. Shvets and lists O. Y. Chernousenko among its successors. School description and lineage (Ukrainian) →

Thermal distillation and intensification of heat and mass transfer

V. H. Rifert · Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor

Heat transfer during vapour condensation and the evaporation of heat-sensitive liquids on smooth, profiled and rotating surfaces. Development of centrifugal distillation technologies for producing clean water in spacecraft life-support systems, water-scarce regions and submarines.

IATE reported that Professor Volodymyr H. Rifert died on 11 July 2026. Its memorial article says this research school developed under his leadership. Memorial notice (Ukrainian) →

Modelling and analysis of thermal processes and systems

V. I. Deshko · Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor

System-level energy and exergy analysis and dynamic modelling of building energy performance and comfort within energy systems. Energy conversion and the thermodynamic properties of heterogeneous lyophobic systems, including energy dissipation. Engineering research and energy management services.

TAE’s school description names V. I. Deshko as its founder. School history and research areas (Ukrainian) →

Computer monitoring of processes and systems

V. H. Slipchenko · Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor

Computer-based methods and information technologies for monitoring the environmental, energy, economic and social conditions of regions. This research aims to improve quality of life.

DTE dates the school’s founding to 1976 and names V. H. Slipchenko as its founder. School history and research areas (Ukrainian) →
