From 20 July to 7 August 2026, Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), together with the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS), will hold a training programme for senior students at Ukrainian technical universities.
This unique educational project is intended for engineering students in Years 4–6, under 25 years of age, and will take place in person at Lviv Polytechnic National University.
Students studying in the following fields are invited to participate:
- nuclear power engineering;
- thermal power engineering;
- hydropower engineering;
- and related engineering specialties.
The training programme covers the following thematic modules:
- Overview of small modular reactor (SMR) technologies;
- Basic principles of nuclear power plant safety and safety-analysis projects;
- Nuclear-renewable hybrid energy systems;
- Accident analysis;
- Assessment of radiological consequences;
- Countering disinformation in nuclear and radiation safety, as well as risk and crisis communication;
- Public participation and engagement.
The programme includes thematic lectures by Ukrainian specialists and ANL experts, practical classes, discussions and exchanges, as well as a technical visit to the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant site.
Proficiency in English sufficient to understand specialist information, communicate and participate actively in the English-language programme is a compulsory requirement. During the selection process, particular attention will be paid to candidates’ level of knowledge and motivation for professional development in nuclear power engineering.

The selection process will take place in two stages:
- Completion of the application form (application deadline – 28 June 2026)
- Interviews with finalists.
Organisers will provide students who successfully pass the competitive selection with accommodation, meals and reimbursement of travel expenses throughout the programme.
